Hip · CONDITION & TREATMENT
Hip Impingement
Differences in the shape of the hip bones can create abnormal contact and affect the labrum or cartilage.
Common Symptoms
Groin pain, stiffness or discomfort with deep bending and rotation.
How It Is Evaluated
Examination, X-rays and sometimes MRI help assess the joint and surrounding tissues.
Nonsurgical Management
Activity changes, targeted physical therapy and suitable medication are often the starting point.
When Surgery May Help
Arthroscopy may be considered for ongoing symptoms with treatable impingement or labral injury. Existing arthritis affects whether surgery is suitable.
Recovery & Return to Activity
Recovery depends on the injury, treatment and your activity goals. Rehabilitation progresses from motion and strength to functional tasks. Return to sport should be based on healing, function and your care team's assessment, rather than a date alone.
