Elbow · CONDITION & TREATMENT
Tennis Elbow
Overuse of the tendons on the outside of the elbow can make gripping painful—even if you do not play tennis.
Common Symptoms
Outer elbow tenderness and pain with gripping or lifting.
How It Is Evaluated
An examination usually establishes the diagnosis. Imaging may be useful for persistent or atypical symptoms.
Nonsurgical Management
Adjusting activities, guided exercises and selected bracing or medication are common first steps.
When Surgery May Help
Surgery is uncommon and generally considered only after prolonged symptoms despite appropriate nonsurgical treatment.
Recovery & Return to Activity
Recovery depends on the injury, treatment and your activity goals. Rehabilitation progresses from motion and strength to functional tasks. Return to sport should be based on healing, function and your care team's assessment, rather than a date alone.
